Supply of Coal/Fuel to Cement Industry

Coal accounts for a considerable amount in the total cost incurred to manufacture cement. While nearly 75% of the coal produced in India is given to the power sector (a priority sector), the cement industry has to import coal. Also, the variety of coal domestically produced is lower in quality (high in ash content) which makes imported coal more efficient. However, price of coal produced in India is nearly 35% lower than the price of imported coal.

Following is the link which gives a break-up of coal/fuel consumed over the last few years: Procurement and consumption of Fuel/Coal
